Vultr pricing
Vultr competes hard on region count and flexible billing. It is a strong second option when DigitalOcean feels expensive or when you need a presence in a city DO does not cover. Treat promotional prices as temporary and model on published list rates.

Best for
Builders who need many regions, hourly billing, and frequent entry-tier promotions for side projects and geo-distributed nodes.
Watch out
Plan SKUs and NVMe vs SSD labels change often. Re-check the pricing page before locking a long-term decision.
What the $5 plan actually is
Cloud Compute 1 GB is the number everyone quotes. It is a real KVM box, hourly billing, lots of cities. The 2 GB step is where most apps should start. High Frequency is the NVMe tax — pay it when disk wait shows up, not on day one.
Our take
Vultr is the region-and-price cloud. It beats DigitalOcean on sticker price more often than the docs admit, and it loses when your team wants tutorials for every firewall click. SKUs get renamed. Check the live page before you lock a quote.

More compares
Same provider, other matchups.
- Vultr vs DigitalOcean Vultr typically undercuts DigitalOcean on comparable entry specs and offers more city-level regions for latency-sensitive experiments. DigitalOcean still wins on docs, tutorials, and a more opinionated product surface for beginners. Choose Vultr when price-per-GB and region coverage dominate. Choose DigitalOcean when you want predictable product naming and fewer surprises during your first year of VPS ops. Always compare list rates rather than temporary Vultr promotions.
- Linode (Akamai) vs Vultr Both Linode and Vultr compete in the mid-market developer VPS space with APIs, hourly billing, and broad region maps. Vultr often wins on raw entry price and city density. Linode (Akamai) tends to feel more enterprise-adjacent on network and transfer packaging. For pricing alone, build a side-by-side of 2 GB and 4 GB plans including transfer caps. For production, factor support expectations and how often each vendor renames SKUs.
- DigitalOcean vs Vultr This pairing is the classic UX-versus-price tradeoff. DigitalOcean sells a cleaner learning curve and ecosystem. Vultr sells aggressive list pricing and region breadth. Developers building public SaaS MVPs often start on DigitalOcean, then add Vultr nodes for cost-sensitive workloads. Side projects that only need a cheap always-on box frequently choose Vultr first. Neither is wrong — match the decision to your bottleneck: time or money.
- Hetzner Cloud vs Vultr Hetzner wins on European price-performance; Vultr wins on global region flexibility and US presence. If your stack is EU-hosted and GDPR-conscious, Hetzner is hard to beat on monthly burn. If you need many PoPs or US East/West defaults, Vultr is the more natural fit. Compare included bandwidth carefully — Hetzner packages often look more generous on paper for EU traffic patterns.
- Vultr vs Linode (Akamai) Vultr versus Linode is a mid-market shootout where pricing, region count, and transfer packaging decide the winner more than brand lore. Vultr usually looks sharper on entry list prices. Linode usually looks stronger when you weight Akamai network story and transfer. Build a 2 GB and 4 GB matrix including bandwidth, then pick the vendor that keeps your unit economics honest after real traffic.
